Dr. Stylianos Lomvardias received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, completed one year of internal medicine training at Thomas Jefferson University, and his pathology residency at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital. He also held a clinical fellowship from the American Cancer Society. He is certified in and has practiced anatomic and clinical pathology for more than 40 years. As a research and staff member at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology he concentrated on nephropathology and electron microscopy. He has worked in both academic and non-academic hospital settings and has directed several hospital laboratories. In addition to genitourinary pathology, Dr. Lomvardias’ interests include gynecologic and oncologic pathology, cytopathology and fine needle aspiration. He was responsible for establishing a needle aspiration service at the Woodhull Medical Center in New York and trained junior colleagues in all aspects of the method. He is an active participant in continuing education programs as well as an instructor of the pathology courses at Downstate Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn, NY.
